The word outsourcing is frequently becoming the subject matter in many business circles. It has affected almost all types of businesses all over the world. There are some countries that lead in this field, such as China and India.
Outsourcing, or off-shoring, is a contract that allows an external party to perform a particular service in behalf of the company. Simply put, it is taking a company's particular internal operation and acquiring a third party to handle these services. This is done in order to save the company more money in terms of lowering costs, improving the quality of service and freeing up some resources of the company, allowing them to focus on other activities that need more attention. Outsourcing, technically, is not just acquiring the services of another company to do a particular function. It also involves assigning an amount of management to the external company. Over the years, outsourcing has increased in popularity. One reason for this is that in the early 1990s, high technological companies grew in number. Most of these companies were not large enough to handle their own vast customer service departments, so they turned to outsourcing. Although manufacturers have been practising this for decades, the modern trend of outsourcing started with the data-processing industry. Today, the practice has spread to various areas and has given rise to like call centres and telemarketing companies.
Almost every company in almost everywhere in the world is outsourcing some of their services in order to increase their profits and to reduce their costs. Outsourcing has been applied to various areas in a company's operation. There are different methods of this practise. An example of this is hiring technical writers to transcribe simple instructions regarding their product. Probably the most common and most used method of outsourcing is that of customer support. Employees who handle the customer support operation of a company vary in functionality. Some handle email support, answering query mails from customers. Others handle phone support. They entertain calls from customers who require assistance regarding a particular product or service. From outsourcing just the customer support operation, it grew and now includes operations in the fields of IT, medicine, engineering, data analysis and more.
